Landmark Solaris™ (all colors) and Landmark™ 30 AR (Silver Birch, Mist White and Star White) by Certainteed are brilliant energy-saving breakthroughs that put cool roof technology to work . These solar reflective asphalt roofing shingles contain advanced colored granules that reflect the suns rays.  This solar reflectance forms a barrier between the sun and your energy bills by reducing your roof’s temperature by as much as 20% during the hottest months of the year.  And that means lower energy costs (as much as 20%) and greater savings over the life of your roof. Solar Reflective Shingles

As an advanced hybrid roofing material, Landmark Solaris combines the traditional beauty of asphalt shingles with the ecological benefits of cool-roof technology. The result is a long-lasting ENERGY STAR® rated product.

Blending ecological technology and innovative performance, Landmark Solaris roofing is more durable than traditional shingles. The reflective technology reduces “thermal shock,” the expansion and contraction of exterior building materials.

  • Rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) for cool roofs and meets the California Title 24 requirements for cool steep slope roofing
  • Solaris shingles may qualify for credits/points in LEED®, NAHB® and other “green” programs
  • All colors meet ENERGY STAR standards for solar reflectance and thermal emissivity

Landmark Solaris Lifetime (50 year) Solar Reflective Shingles cost about 50% more than a standard Landmark 30 year architectural shingle. Both qualify for the energy tax credit of up to $1500 on 30% of the cost of the Solar Reflective Shingle material under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  Combined with the savings on your energy bills, these roofs can actually almost pay for themselves over the years.  Let’s do the math:  An average size house of 2400 sq feet is going to measure around 40 squares with shingles, starters, valley material, ridge cap and waste.  The average cost for removal and replacement of a 40 square roof with Landmark Solaris Lifetime Solar Reflective Singles would be around $12,000.  This would qualify for the $1500 tax credit and bring the price down to $10,500.  An average utility bill might be around $300 a month and if you saved 20% on your energy bill 6 months out of the year, you would save around $360 a year.  Over the course of 30 years your roof will have paid you back $10,800 or more in savings.  The roof has paid for itself and it still has 40% of it’s useful life left. Landmark 30 AR (Silver Birch, Mist White and Star White) on an average size home, with the Federal Tax Credit, would be less expensive than other 30 year architectural shingles.

Additional Details:

  • Tax credit for 30% of the cost of energy-efficient products up to a lifetime cap of $1,500.
  • The tax credit applies to the cost of materials only (not installation costs).
  • At the present time, this credit is available for 2009 and 2010.
  • Homeowner must save receipts and provide a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement.
  • IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version) is the form the homeowner will use to apply for the tax credit.

solarTubeSide DaylightingSolatube Daylighting Systems are the cost-effective way to bring natural light to virtually any room of your home. Solatube uses breakthrough technology to capture light through a dome on the roof and channel it down through an internal reflective system. This tubing is far more efficient than a traditional drywall skylight shaft, which can lose over half of it’s potential light, and fits between rafters easily with no structural modification. At the ceiling level, a diffuser that resembles a recessed light fixture spreads the light evenly throughout the room. With the Solatube Daylighting System operating during daylight hours, electric lights are off which means no energy consumption. Solatubes also have insignificant heat gain, so air conditioning or heating are not affected. Alternatively, more heat would be lost through a small closed window. The cost of the Solatube Daylighting System is more affordable than most traditional skylights since labor becomes a very large portion of the cost to frame out the skylight, drywall it, tape it, and paint it. Solatube® Daylighting Systems are a great way to reduce home energy use. Better yet, it qualifies for a credit of 30% up to $1,500 on your Federal Tax Returns.

Ventilation is the biggest reason why we have to replace so many roofs in the Mid-South. Improper ventilation can reduce as much as 50% off the life of your shingles, raise your utility bills in both the summer and winter months, and void your warranty from day one with a new roof.

We believe Attic Breeze offers both the most durable and powerful solar powered ventilation products available. Using only high quality parts and materials, Attic Breeze solar attic fans operate on the principle of active (forced) draft air convection. The solar fans create an air draft through your attic many times more powerful than that of passive (natural) draft air convection techniques, like ridge vents, gables vents, and dormer vents. As you have probably noticed if you currently have any of these vents installed on your home, they are not very effective at reducing the temperature of your attic. Turbine vents (whirlibirds) are designed to pull hot air out of your attic when the wind blows. These vents are equally ineffective at removing attic heat due to frequent mechanical problems, low air moving capability, and a dependence on the wind to supply the power needed to induce a draft through the attic.

Attic Breeze Lifetime WarrantyAttic Breeze uses a 25 watt solar panel that can deliver an incredible 1550 CFM of airflow, far more powerful than any other product in this class, and can effectively cool an attic space of up to 2300 square feet! Most other companies use a 10 watt solar panel that do not work very well in cloudy conditions and only delivers about 500-800 CFM. A powered attic fan uses electricity which could cost as much as $30-40 per month during summer months. Between savings on energy costs during both summer (removing hot air to keep the attic and home cooler) and winter (removing moisture from attic to keep house warmer), combined with not having to use any electricity with a powered fan, in our experience, a typical installation will usually pay for itself in savings within 1-2 summers of use.
